Account setup: Test Account Setting always works

.... sending within outlook always fails. In both cases I am sending to
the same external email address. Error message reads: "The operation
timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server"

Now - I can understand that I may be having outbound authentication
problems - but why does the test make it through then?
Thanks for any help!

What version of Outlook do you have? Do you have any anti-viruse software
that scans your incoming and outgoing mail?

Unfortunately, the test-account button uses different code than that used
to actually send mail, so the two don't always work the same.

Other details:
Outlook 2003 SP1
McAfee VirusScan Enterpirse 7.0 - currently not scanning mail (will
activate once I get this sending worked out)
Couple firewalls (windows + DLINK) - but I assume since mail gets out,
they aren't blocking this
I have to authenticate against a different mail domain for sending
(than the one I use for incoming mail) - so I was thinking they just
block all emails that aren't from their domain - but the test message
gets out fine, so I don't know if this is the case.
Can I turn on debugging or is there anything I can run to identify
where the mail is getting held up?
Thanks.

See if http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=813514 helps. I'm particularly
suspicious of your firewalls and (if you have one) your router's MTU
setting...

Thanks for your help, Jeff

Email started working today without any settings changes. So - I am all
set. Just a bit of a mystery why it didn't in the first place...
