accounts don't show up when select add existing account

I am fairly new to the business contact manager. I have entered an account
then went to the business contacts and filled out the contact information.
When I try to select the account from add existing account the accounts are
not showing up. This also happens when I go to accounts and try to add a
business contact to the account. The selection table pops up but there is
nothing in the table. Thanks for the help.
