Accurate actual numbers?

How does one assure getting the most accurate actual numbers in
Project Professional 2003?

We had a bit of an alarm this morning. Online view of a project
showed that actuals exceeded baseline by $4,000.00 and we have 1300
hours remaining on the Project.

I saved to a mpp file offline and now see more realistic and less
alarming numbers: Actuals $8,000 less than baseline, and about 300
less hours of remaining work.

Anybody else run into difficulties looking at numbers in the
Professional client?

Anybody have a best practice for procedures to perform before
reporting that will assure accurate results?

I think it would be very interesting to determine where the
differences come from. It's hard to say more or less accurate until
we know where the differences are.

There are actuals that do not save to the mpp file, for one.
