Acess 97 won't start 'not enough free memory'

I recently installed Office 97 on my system. I am running Windows XP. All the
applications in Office 97 function normally except Access. When i start
Access I receive messages:

'Out of Memory' and

'a system error occured, or there isn't enough free memory to start
Microsoft Access. Close unneeded programs and try again'.

Anyone had this problem? Any solutions? Please help

This is the default message when Access has a problem but it hasn't
been specifically handled. Thus this is a misleading message.

Have you installed SR-2 and Jet 3.5 SP3?

See the Access 97 section at Microsoft Access Service Packs, Release,

I did as you suggested and installed SR-1, SR-2, and Jet 3.5 SPE. Access is
now up a running. It actually started operating correctly after installing
SR-1, but I installed the others as well, hopefully to ward off any further
problems.
Thanks sooo much for the info!

Installing all three are a very wise idea as there is at least one
severe bug in Jet that is fixed by SP3.
Thanks sooo much for the info!

You're very welcome. Glad I was of assistance.

This helped in a round about way , LOL , check out this work around.
I installed the office 97 pro on XP home , after the installation nothing
was showing up in the start - programs , and everything except acess was
working...

I had to browse for the programs .exe to see if they were or were not working.

so I started looking around on the net to find any information , I installed
the SR1
and still acess was not working , so I tried to install the SR2 and it would
not install !!!

I found this forum and the guy who got his to work instilled a little more
try to in me. so with a little thought I found the problem / problems.

1 I had installed to the D: drive
2 I had not created a folder " Microsoft Office " to install to...

in my program files on the D: drive after the installation there was a
folder "Office"

so I thought that this might have something to do with it , I deleted the
folders under the "Program Files " folder that were installed , then ran my
free CCleaner program to clean up the registry , I installed acess first to
see if it would run and
it ran !!!!! finally...

then I installed each program one at a time and everything went well except
the CLIPPIT.ACC actor and the HTMLMARQ.OCX which did not self register

I reinstalled SR1 and am about to install SR2 and any other updates I can find
but I wanted to post this accomplishment before I reboot the OS.

I tell you this was a great help finding this forum and someone who actually
got their Office 97 to work on XP.

now since I also run WINDOWS LIVE ONE CARE I can hope to get a thing or two
done without worry from hackers and spyware infesting itself on my system
