Acrobat 7 interfering with Word 03 normal.dot saves

I have recently had to reinstall Adobe Acrobat 7. In the past I have edited
the registry to prevent it loading with Office applications. This edit no
longer works and, sure enough, normal.dot doesn't save. I can force a save by
'saving all' but it seems to me a better fix is needed.
