Action isn't available now

Hi,
I have windows xp at work and just saved an access database on a flash
drive. I put it in my laptop which has vista and when I try to access forms
to say append(DoCmd.RunCommandcCmdRecordsGoToNew)a record or save a record i
get the above message. "Command or action isn't available now" This
database/forms worked fine on my work computer.
Is this a vista thing or something else.

Help!
Lorna

Sounds like a permissions issue, maybe. Are you trying to run it from the
flash drive or have you moved it to the hard drive on your laptop?

I see lots of posts, here and elsewhere, and the general theme is that Access
doesn't like flash drives at all. Lots of reports of corruption after
transferring files using them. Never have seen any real resolution.

I'd go into Windows Explorer and check the file's Properties to make sure it
hasn't gotten changed to Read-Only.

It wasn't the laptop it must have been the file when I copied it over. I
think I did a compact and repair on it when i opened it on the laptop which
currupted the file somehow.
Thanks,Lorna

I preach all the time against using the "Compact on Close" option for just
that reason. Compact and Repair is a common cause of corruption and shouldn't
be done with first making a backup copy.

I won't forget it again. I've used it before when I imported instead of
linked and didn't have this problem but I'll be very selective in the
future.

Again, thanks for your help.
