Action settings greyed out in Powerpoint

I want to link 2 powerpoint presentations as one includes Portrait and the
other Landscape slides. This means creating a hyperlink between the two. The
Help menu direct me to use the Action Settings in Slide Show menu, but this
is greyed out in my copy of Powerpoint. How do I get Action Settings please?

You must link from an object or text. Use autoshapes or action buttons to
draw an object from which you can link.

As Sandy says you will need to create and select a shape / button first. Also
