activation of Office on laptop and desk

I understand that office can be activated on a laptop and
a desk PC for personal use only if you have the retail
version. The preinstallled factory OEM version only
allows activation on one computer. I did not realize this
when I bought a laptop computer from Dell. I bought a
desk PC from them a few weeks later and could not
activate office on the second computer because I had the
OEM version. I have Office 2000 from another older
computer. I know the full retail version of Office 2003
could be activated on both computers, but I wonder if I
can persuade Dell to exchage the OEM version of Office
2003 for the retail upgrade Office2003 would that allow
for two activations as does the full retail version of
Office2003.

If you get it from Dell, it is OEM no matter what you try to get.
