Activation Problems with Office Pro 2007

Philip

I recently bought a new pc with Vista home premium as its operating system.
I did not want to use the trial version of MS office 2007 already
pre-installed, so installed al legal version of Office XP, which I then
registered. I found this ran slow, and finally decided the problem was the
pre-installed Office 2007, and uninstalled it.

This did not help improve the speed. I then found I did need the extra
capacity of Office Pro 2007, and purchased it. I have installed it on my
laptop and it activated without problems. BUT on my desktop the software
installed, but refuses to activate. There is an activation wizard on the
main menu, but this seems to be a legacy from the pre-installed sofware.
When I go to the tab saying click her to activate a purchased copy of MS
Office Pro 2007, all it does is start Word. If I go to Word or any other of
the Office suite and click on Activate, nothing happens.

Just as annoyingly, Word is now operating very slowly, with lots of
egg-timer signals if I change from one screen to another.

All the advice (that I have found) on the MS web site, assumes the
activation wizard works. In my case it doesn't.

Can anyone help please?

You have probably damaged your system by installing an early version, whilst
the trial was there
Do you have a system restore point for prior the install of your OfficeXP?

Dear DL,

Apologies for not replying sooner, but I have been away. I note your point
about possible damage to my system due to the installation of an earlier
version of office to the one on trial - but as I said, I am still learning.

I have reviewed my sytem restore points as you suggested, but the earliest
one left on my system is the one one when I did uninstall the the trial
version of office 2007, not the one when I installed office XP.

But thanks for the suggestion, I think that would have worked.

Dear Beth,

Many thanks for your suggestion that I uninstall everything office and
reinstalle 2007.

I had already uninstalled office XP, so I then I uninstalled Office 2007.
As I was doing so, I found there was an Activation Wizard in the list of
installed programmes, and uninstalled that too.

I also deleted the "opa12.dat" file, as recommeded elsewhere in Microsoft help

I then reinstalled Office 2007, but as before, when I tried to activate, the
wizard refused to start.

Incidentally, when I installed the programme, I entered the product key, but
now I wonder what will happen when the activation period expires? Will the
sofware go into a limited mode, or will it continue?

In addition, I had no problems in downloading and installing SP1, but when I
tried to download the add-in for pdf/xml file formats, the system refused to
let me do so, as my office installation had not been activated.

My frustration continues.
