The computer I bought came with a trial version of office. It is now running
out. I just bought the educational version but I guess I cant use the
product key that came with that to activate the trial version. So the
question is - can I just install the educational version or do I have to
uninstall the trial version first. If the latter I cant find "microsoft
office 2007" in the add/remove programs.

You need to uninstall the trial version. But, you don't see Microsoft Office
2007... listed at all?

I see
2007 microsoft office system at the top
and "lower" I see
microsoft office 2007 primary interop assembies

so the first one is the one to uninstall ?

Did the computer come with some Office 2003 elements as well? For the Home &
Student version of Office 2007 to work properly, it is not necessary to
remove Office 2003 components. It's not clear however where the Office Small
Business Connectivity components came from (are they part of Office 2007 or
a different version of Office?). Are you using them? Did you explicitly
install them?

If you aren't using those components and didn't explicitly install them
yourself, I would remove them. But, you know more about what you actually
use than we do.

Actually you DONT have to uninstall anything. After doing some more research
I installed the educational version and it replaces the trial version -
opening word/power point etc now - it is not a "trial" version anymore

I am having a problem entering my activation key I got when I downloaded
Office 2007 Home and Student. The activation wizard pops up every time I
open either Word or Excel and I haven't been able to enter the key. I use
these products quite often and need help in resolving this issue. This
software was downloaded on our new Dell PC w/Vista
