active cell row reference

I want a formula in cell A1 to equal the row reference of the active
cell.

Any thoughts?

=CELL("Address")


you need to press F9 to change the value, it won't work by just selecting
the cell

if you only want the row

=ROW(INDIRECT(CELL("Address")))

remember that you have to press F9 to recalculate or else it will return the
row where you put it
