Active Directory Synchronization

I am the admin for a new Project Server installation. I am new to Project
Server and infact new to MS Office Project.

I'm confused about AD synchronization. I have set up groups in AD for Team
Members and Project Managers etc. When I synchronize with AD using Manager
Groups under Security everything seems to work ok. But when I use Active
Directory Resource Pool Synchronization under Operation Policies it makes
several of the users inactive.

1. First of all why are there two methods for AD synchronization?
2. Do I use both or one or the other?
3. What is the standard method for adding, remving and changing users using
AD?
4. And finally, why are some of the users being made inactive by the
Resource Pool Synchronization.

As I said I am new to Project so simple answers would be appreciated.

I've been playing some more with this issue. I have an AD group for Team
Members. In that group are only team members no project managers or
executives etc. I used that group to synchronize with the resource pool. So
it was making everyone who isn't in that group inactive. I've now created aan
AD group called Project Resource Pool and added everyone to it. They are now
all active. But i still do not understand why there are two methods for AD
synchronization or how they should be used correctly?

One of the features populates the Enterprise Resource Pool with enterprise
resources. The other feature places the enterprise resources into security
Groups in PWA. These are two distinct operations. Hope this helps.

Dale thanks that sort of helps. I don't understand why that would design the
software such that is made group members inactive. Surely if you add a user
to any groups - project mamangers, teammembers etc - you want them all
active. Anyway have I taken the right action creating a Project Resiurce Pool
AD group and adding everyone?
