active sessions error message

I have linked an Excel 2003 spreadsheet to an Access 2003 database and keep
getting the error message "Could not start session. Too many sessions already
active." after about 30 db accesses. I can't find where to either increase or
delimit the number of active sessions in either Excel or Access. The only
alternative seems to be to close Excel and re-commence from where I left off.
Any clues anyone?
