Active X textbox with scrollbars

I have an Active X textbox with scrollbars and it works fine right after putting the text in and formatting it to my liking. But after I email it, the recipient can not scroll and view the text. In addition, the box appears to be greyed out/locked so I can't see what's wrong. Also, when i right-click it, there is no "Properties" option on the pop-up menu. But prior to emailing it, the option was available.
Any ideas?
