activesync will not sync with contacts. It creates blank entries

I have been up and down with HTC over my 8125 phone, but I don't necessarily
think it's the phone that's causing the problem.

Every time I sync using ActiveSync 4.5 with my work computer (XPPro,
Exchange 2003, Outlook 2007), It will not sync the contacts, calendar, tasks
or Notes correctly. I have seen 85001 and 8600 errors. For the calendar and
contacts it will error code 1 and list all the entries because they did not
sync.

The biggest issue is that when I flush the user on the computer and sync, it
reads the contacts (which are about 200), and it begins to create the phone
contacts, but then will stop. I end up with 200 blank contacts in which I
have to delete.

This sync was successful on a computer running XP home with Office 2007. So
I know the sync works. I also know the sync on my machine works, because
before this phone I had a Dell Axim which synced fine. I thought there could
be some registry key for the Axim that was blocking, but I have yet to find
something like that.

I am at wits end. HTC escallated this about 4-5 weeks ago and I have yet to
hear from them.

Any ideas on what to check?
