activesync with office 2003

I am trying to sync my mail.
Laptop with office/outlook 2003 installed connected to pda (ipaq) with
Pocket PC Prem with outlook 2002 installed connected by cable.

When I open Activesync (3.7.1) and click options there is no tick box
available against the inbox. when I remove the pda I can then click the
tickbox next to the inbox, but when I reconnect the pda and it syncronises
the inbox has been removed from the list of items. when I click options again
the box has been removed from the inbox.

I collect my mail using pop3 from the laptop, I then want to have a copy on
the PDA.

Any ideas?
