Activity Plan publishing

Steve

Question – on Friday we published an Activity plan with a resource assigned
to some tasks in it. The resource has a cost rate set up in the enterprise
resource pool. When viewing the published activity plan in PWA using a
Project Centre Cost view, no costs show up for the plan eg for a 10 day task
at $500 per day, we were expecting to see $5000 in the Cost column in PWA but
it was zero. When the actual resource subsequently recorded actual work
against the task in his My Tasks page, got it approved and republished the
plan, the cost at that point appeared in PWA.

This is very odd behaviour and not at all what I would have expected as when
carrying out the same process using Project Professional to publish an
enterprise project plan it works fine. We were very careful to ensure that
the Activity Plan was published properly eg the Queue reported no failures.

To confuse matters more, when I attempted to replicate the problem on the
standard Virtual PC demo image this morning, the activity plan publishing
worked fine as required and costs showed up straight away in PWA before the
resource got involved in recording work.

Anyone with any ideas?

Hi Steve

This is tipically a need for a fix or Infra Update, that was already applied
to the VM. Please check if you have the same version of Project Server on
both machines :
look at this dll on the server
Here is the lastest version of Project Server 2007 (feb 2009 cumulative
update)
Microsoft.Office.Project.Shared.dll
12.0.6341.5002 120,672 04-Mar-2009 07:55

you need also to get : SP1 and Infrastructure Update in addition to this Feb
cumulative Update
SP1 + IU may be enough in your case (look at IU description)

Please look at all the hotfixe and Cumulative update detail to check this
item, here is the lastest CU :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968271/en-us
and look at all hotfixe after july 2008, as far as I know there is no
cumulative text to see exactly what is fixes.
or wait for SP2 to come this year
