Actual vs. work hours

HI,

Used SW: MS Project 2002 & MS Project Server

I have a case where I'm not sure is it feature or bug in
Project. Case is
1. There is task published for the developer via server.
2. Schedule work hours are eg 5hour per day.
3. Developer adds actual, real hours and update data into
server. It could be like
day1 day2 day3
WORK: 5 5 5
Act. 3 4
4. I update my plan and if I look added hours again it
looks like
day1 day2 day3
WORK: 3 4 5
Act. 3 4

All work hours are same like actuals?

We use those data in server to find out how our planned
hours meets actuals. So is this bug or feature? If this is
a feature what we should use if we like to study planned
vs actual work? Note! I do not use baselines.

Hi Tomi,

This is a feature not a bug.
Note that probably your work after inputting the actuals would have looked
like

Work before 5 5 5
Actual Work 3 4
Work after 3 4 8

That's how it works, yes.
You cannot maintain that your plan is 5 hours when reality is 3. Reality is
stronger that plan.
Original work is stored in Baseline Work, but when you choose not to use
that feature, you have lost it.

You NEED to baseline. This is the ONLY way to see what
was "planned" after the actual hours are recorded.
Baseline is Critical to MS Project plan.
