Actual Work changing historically (Project 2002 EPM)

The main issue we are seeing is 'actual work' changing historically.

Snapshots of the same task in March 03 have been taken on different dates
this year 26 Jan and 3 Feb.

I am running a split view with Task Usage in the upper view and task details
in the lower view.

In the Task details form (lower window) both snapshots show the actual work
as 20hrs and the task complete. There is one resource assigned to the task.

In the upper section the hours booked are different the first one (26th Jan)
showing 13.75 hours and the corresponding cost at £50/hr £687.5, the other
one taken at 3 Feb showing 20hrs and £1000.

Why would this be ?

To begin with there is a simple anomoly in the first case - why would the
assignment show 13.75 h actual work in the upper view, but shows 20h for the
assignment in the task details form - that in itself just doesn't make
sense.

This appears to be something happening within the software. No one has had
any reason to tamper with this task as it is so old. On the same screen shot
it shows conflicting information.

I can send a screenshot through if necessary.

Appreciate it if anyone has any ideas .....

Thanks

Gary

This is the second posting of this problem. Appreciate any feedback ASAP.

Again, I can only add my voice as one who also experiences this problem and
express some frustration that no one seems to be willing to take this on.

We are currently in the process of trying to document this problem in our
several very complex projects. If we can do that I'll spring the bucks for
a support case. It MUST be a problem in the software but it's hard to get a
handle on it (my poor operator cancelled an audit report of Actual Work at
1300 pages!).

We have no ideas at this point but are only laying the trap...

You might try this:

Select Tools - Options - Calculation Tab. Deselect
the "Updating task status updates resource status"
checkbox.

I have tested this with Administrative template in
Project Server 2003 and it seems to be working so far.
Whatever value I enter in the Timesheet View in PWA is
recorded as that value in the project plan. Prior to
deselecting this checkbox my actuals were out of sync
with what was recorded in PWA. Don't ask me why this
works - found this in the Troubleshooting Project 2002
book.
