Actual work stats for a specified time period

M

MD

Hello,

I'm trying to figure a way to get actual work stats for a time span
between a certain start date and end date, for top level or summary
tasks. I cannot find a way to specify a date restriction on any of the
reports.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi Mark,

There are a number of ways to accomplish this. The easiest way to do this
is:

1) Go to View->Reports and double-click Custom.
2) Find the report you want to have the date range.
3) Click the Edit... button (or you could Copy)

Hi Mark and Bill

But when you use that method for reporting, doesn't the system spread your actual work hours entered across the duration of the task? So instead of seeing the hours on the single day they were worked you would see them divided evenly across the task days

I am in the process of implementing Project 2003 Server and I am stumbling in the way so many seem to be. I need to provide a time card functionality based on actual hours worked by resource for a specific time period. Is there a simple way to achieve this

Thanks
Nathan

We are struggling with this, too.

Colin Anderson posted a reply on 11/24/03 to a message of mine,
bascially saying that he had to use some "advanced SQL queries, where
[he compares] last week's status with the new status."

It seems odd that a system being sold/implemented for time tracking
doesn't seem to include any simple way to *report* that time.

I don't have anything to offer, but I'm adding this post to the thread
hoping someone can suggest some specific solution.

I'd encourage anyone else facing this issue to add a "me too" to the
thread.

Jack:

The Portfolio Analyzer is capable of displaying this data, but the system
must be set to track work and remaining work entered by day against
non-fixed-duration tasks. Any other collection method will not give you the
proper daily breakdowns in the analyzer. Alternately, you can write SQL to
query the database directly.

All:

I don't know if this will help you, but Dale Howard made suggestion that has helped me in a similar area. By modifying the Who Does What When report to display Actual Work instead of Work, you can get a picture of the when the actual hours were posted against a task. Of course you have to be tracking by day to get day totals.

Anyway like I said, not my idea. But a good one I thought worth sharing.
