Actual Work vs. Protected Actual Work

What is the difference between Actual Work and Protected Actual Work?
These are out of sync at a task level in our project plan. Thanks!

Actual Work Protected (AWP) is a read-only file that represents what
users entered in their PWA timesheet. Actual Work is not read-only and
represents what users entered in their PWA timesheet plus anything that
has been edited by the project manager is the Resource or Task Usage
view. If they are out of synch, it means that edits have been made.

Hope this helps,
