Actual Work

David

I have the team filling in the Timesheets on the Project
Server using web access for the Actual Work.
The problem faced is that when I view report on the
Portfolio Analyser for the Actual Work, I have noticed the
Actual Work is being filled automatically for actuals not
submitted. Could some one explain how the actual work is
being filled on the project plan without entering the
actuals. How can I eliminate this so that I can get
accurate reports for actual work?

Regards,
David.

If actual work is in the portfolio analyser then it must
be in the project as well. When actuals are filled in
automatically, without being entered, it is usually
because someone (project manager?) has changed something
such as % complete.

How will changing the % Complete affect the Actual Work,
Work will get changed. Please explain. Thanks in advance.

David:

When you status a task or project within the Project client, work is assumed
to be completed and automatically accrued by the system. If you don't want
this to happen, you need to teach your PMs to manage all aspects of tasks
and assignments.

Gary,

Please could you explain in detail as it is not clear to
me how to manage all aspects of tasks & assignments
without the MS Project updating the Actual work by itself
on Projects.
I would like to have the actual work entries only from the
MS Project Web Access Timesheets which the team enters.

Regards,
Sajani.

This explanation typically requires your attendance at a two-day training
class. You're asking me to describe the core fundamentals of Project and
Project management theory in a quick news group post. I suggest you start by
understanding the relationship and formulas at play between duration, units
and work and how task-type settings can affect the behavior of the tool.
