Actual work

Hi,
When I opened my timesheet for this week, it showed actual hours under a
particular task. Does anyone have an idea of why those hours were populated?

Thanks,
Barbara

Perhaps the PM manually entered progress on the task in the Microsoft
Project plan and then published the changes. Hope this helps.

Hi,
If actual work is showing in the tasks for future dates, how can you remove
this information? I'm using Project 2007.

Thanks

If you have Actual Work on tasks scheduled in the future, then you need to
reset the Actual Work to 0h on those tasks. Here's how:

1. Apply the Gantt Chart view.
2. Click View - Table - Work.
3. Pull the split bar to the right to expose the Actual Work column
(labeled "Actual" in this table).
4. Right-click on the Work column header and select Insert Column from the
pick list.
5. Select the Start field and click the OK button to temporarily insert the
Start column.
6. On the Formatting toolbar, click the AutoFilter button (2nd from the
right end of the toolbar).
7. Click the AutoFilter pick list button in the the Start column header and
select the (Custom...) item on the list.
8. In the Custom AutoFilter dialog, set the test to "Is greater than" and
then manually type the date for today in the value field on the right.
9. Click the OK button to apply the custom AutoFilter.

The above process will display every task that starts AFTER today.

10. Click the AutoFilter pick list button on the Actual Work column header
and select the (Custom...) item on the list.
11. In the Custom AutoFilter dialog, set the test to "Is greater than" and
then enter 0 in the value field on the right.
12. Click the OK button to apply the custom AutoFilter.

The above process will now show any task that starts in the future AND that
has Actual Work greater than 0 hours. In the resulting task list, enter a 0
in the Actual Work column for every task that shows Actual Work > 0 hours.
You can use the Fill Handle to fill down the 0 from the first task. When
finished, click the AutoFilter button again to turn off the AutoFilter
option, then save and publish your project.

Now, here's my question for you: Precisely HOW did the future work appear
in this project? Do you have any clues as to what happened? Let us know.

Hi Dale,
I'm not sure how this happened. I'm wondering if hitting collaborate, update
project progress would have something to do with it. Thanks for the
information. It looks like we are locked down from updating actual hours in
the project. Thanks again for your help.
