Add a contact folder to e-mail Address Book

Fred G

I have a problem trying to assign various contact folders so that I can view
them as an e-mail address book.

The problem is that when I click on the Outlook Address Book Tab, everything
is grey. I have administrator privileges on the computer and am actually the
only user of the computer. The file was saved on another computer and
transferred to my new one.

Where can I change the security settings of the PST file so I can click the
check box to show the folder as an e-mail address book? I have already tried
the properties, but no security tab exists.

I am running Windows XP Home, not Professional.

Doesn't sound like a security issue.
Sounds like you haven't added the Outlook Address Book to your profile.

Thanks for the thought, but I do have the Outlook Address Book in my profile.
I just can't notify the Outlook Address Book which contact folders it should
allow me to look at.

The steps that I go through are
right click on specific contact folder,
left click on properties,
left click on Outlook Address Book tab,
then all I get is the greyed out form that I would normally check to
indicate that I want the folder added to "show this folder as an e-mail
address book".
After checking the box, the folder would then normally appear in the Outlook
Address Book.

Sounds like you have to add the Outlook Address Book service to your
profile. However, since you neglected to state your Outlook version,
exactly how that's done is left as an exercise for your homework.

My Outlook Version is XP or 2002.

Still sounds like you didn't add the Outlook Address Book Service to your
profile. Verify that it's there and tell me how you know.

Thank you for your assistance, but I decided that my situation was related to
a corrupt install. I ended up creating a new profile and establishing the
appropriate email accounts and PST data files.

Now that I got rid of the PST file that was hanging me up, the forms are no
longer grey and I can add the contact folders to my Outlook adddress Book.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are just staring you straight in the face,
you just don't consider it.

Have a great day.
