Add a spinning gif image while a page loads

If this is the wrong place to post this question....please direct me to the
correct forum:

I want to add a gif that would spin or do something while a page is loading.
You see this on many commercial sites.

Thanks in advance for advice or comments.

Those other sites you see use "preloaders" probably because their sites are
done with Macromedia Flash and not purely HTML.
