Add AD Group to Workspaces

S

shahid_chowdhury

Hello

Platform Project Server 2007, SP1, latest infrastrucutre update.

We would like to add Some specific AD Security to be members of a Workspace.
Please note not all users on AD are sycnhed to PS 2007.

Reason we need to add some users is because these users are not assigned
tasks but need access to some Docs on the Workspace.

Shahid:

The easiest way to add someone to the project workspace with reader rights
is to simply add them to the Project team. Another possibility is to add
them to the Executives group which gives them reader rights on all
workspaces.

My understanding is that if any content on the workspace is derived from
Project Server DB's then a CAL is required.

Hi Paul, I specifically asked this of the Product Group back in 2003 days
and their answer was that if you didn't touch the Project Server (which if
you go directly to the Workspace site you don't) then you don't need a CAL.

It just goes to show the confusion around licencing and each customer needs
to verify their own requirements with their local Licencing specialist.

Thanks, Ben.

I can support Bens post. I had a client with this request and Microsoft came
back saying as long as no Project Server functionality is used ( e.g. Risk,
Issues, document library links to Project schedule) you dont need a Project
Server CAL
Hope this helps

It's certainly not black n white. If the user is not created in PWA, then
any information coming through the PSI (eg Project Center Webpart) will be
security trimmed, so they won't see anything.

If the customer is using something like SRS or Excel Services to report out
of the RDB then a CAL will be required.

Risks, Issues, Deliverables are all primarily stored in the content db and
sync'd to the RDB, so no direct interaction and no CAL needed.

It certainly needs some clarification.
