I have the free Adobe Reader. How can I add text to a document? If not
possible is there any other free program which allows to add text?

You can't. I don't know if there are any *free* programs that will allow you
to edit a .pdf. And if the file is set to not allow changes, you are SOL.

If this is a one time edit you may be able to do it in the 14 day trial of
this product which can edit PDF files. http://www.primopdf.com/index.aspx
Download and install the Nitro PDF Professional from the site.

I use the free version for all my PDF creation needs but of course it won't
edit at all.

Thanks. I am wondering if there isn't any program that could convert a PDF
to a text file?

Can you select the "text" in the PDF then "copy", and paste it into a
blank Word doc?

Humm, how about paste the Image into Picture Manager, Export as type
..tif, and then Open the TIF file in Microsoft Office Document Imaging
and run OCR -> Word.

That trial program can convert from pdf to text but as with most you will
probably lose formatting.
