adding a bullet list results in "Microsoft Office Word has stoppedworking."

This has been happening to me a couple of times now in the last 2
weeks, and it seems to be getting worse.

I am editing a document, selecting a couple lines of text and clicking
the bullets button.
Everything comes to a halt and I get the following error:
Microsoft Office Word has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to working correctly. Windows will close
the program and notify you if a solution is available.

Either microsoft comes back again by itself or when i open the same
doc again i can recover to a document that microsoft marks as repaired

Sometimes it displays this after a repair but not always:
word repair file internal data integrity type 4

I can make it happen over and over again.
I tried saving the doc and closing word after the recovery, removing
all the temp files etc but no difference. This has been happening to
more and more docs now.

If this is Word 2007, exit Word and delete the ListGal.dat file, located in
your user profile. You can use Windows search to locate the file (be sure to
search hidden files and folders).

For older versions, exit the application, and then locate and delete the
List Gallery Presets key in the registry. (To start the registry editor,
press Windows key + R; in the Run dialog box, type regedit and press Enter.)

sweeeettt!

That did the trick, still keeps me wondering how I got to that state
but oh well.
Thanks Stefan!

(I was using word 2003 and removed this key from my registry after
which I have not encountered any problems anymore
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\List Gallery
Presets)

I'm glad I could help!

Sometimes, registry keys corrupt; that's probably what has happened with
your installation.

Hi there

I'm getting this error running Windows 2007 on Windows 7 (Home). I cant
find the listgal file you are referring to and was wondering if there is
another fix for this issue with Win 7?

Thanks

Did you try searching for the file? To start the Find utility, hold the
Windows key and then press F. As I wrote in the old thread, make sure that
you are searching hidden files and folders.

I have the same annoying problem on a the Greek version of Word and when
opening documents that have hyphenation from other version (previous) of Word
(like 97).

Since I have no access to the older Word, how can I workaround the problem?

I cannot open the document at all. It crashes with the same above message.

Assuming that you are using Word 2007, you should try deleting the
ListGal.dat file. (For Word 97-2003, delete the List Gallery Presets key in
the registry.) If that doesn't work, the document itself might be damaged.
Try Open and Repair.

I have the same error on my Word 2003, however when I look inside my registry
key I cannot find a List Gallery Presets key to delete.
I don't know where to move from here now. Help please

Are you sure that you are looking in the right place in the registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word)?

It doesn't work at all. :-(

You have replied to a rather old thread. Would you please describe the problem
more in detail?
