adding a column below another larger column

I am making a form that has a wide column in the middle of it. The next row of information for this form has a checklist 4 columns wide. I wanted to make the columns look even but can't because of the larger column above this information. Is there a way to group columns below a certain point of a form so that they don't interfere with wider columns above? I hope this makes sense. I am using Excel 2000. Thanks.

I think I know what your talking about. The only way I can think of to work around this is to

setup the wide information so that it is actually merged accross several columns. Then the information below it can still be in serperate columns. For example, select C7:F7. FORMAT-->CELLS-->ALLIGNMENT-->TEXT CONTROL and check the merge cells box. I believe you can do this in Excel 2000

Baring that, you can do them in seperate pieces and use then have one summary section where you paste a picture link. shift+EDIT -->Pase Picture Link

The column width property is for the entire column, top to bottom, and cannot
be changed.

You could experiment with Format>Cells>Alignment>Horizontal and choose "center
across columns".

Another method, which I hesitate to mention, is "Merged Cells".

The hesitation comes from the problems that merged cells cause when trying to
copy, paste, sort and filter.
