Adding a value from a different cell

Say there is a 5 in cell A1, I want cell B1 to display 7. So is there a
way to make a formula that does something like this? ex.
(A(variable)+2)=B(vairable)

=a1+2
In B1

If the end result is that a cell displays 'whatever number + 2' then:
=SUM(A1+2)
Where cell A1 is the place where you put the number (not the formula).

If you don't want a 2 to be displayed in the cell that has the formula when
there isn't any data in 'A1', then you could type:
=IF(A1="","",SUM(A1+2))

There are actually a lot of different ways to write this formula, I am not
advocating one or the other, but this one works.
