Adding .bmp signature and locking documents

H

Harold

My question is two-fold.

First, I would like to be able to add a scanned copy of my
signature to Word documents that I email to friends.
However, for obvious security reasons, I do not want them
to be able to simply copy my signature and print it on
anything they wish. Is there a way to embed the signature
so that it will print with the document, but can not be
saved independently.

Second, is there a way to lock the document from being
edited by the recipient. If I were to sign a contract or
letter of intent with a digital signature, I would hate
for someone to simply open the document, make a few
changes to their benefit and then print it.

If you write down your signature *anywhere* it can be copied. Any attempts
you make to secure the signature will be a waste of time.

There is no way either to prevent anyone from changing *any* document that
you allow them to view. The best you can manage is to use a security
protected PDF format, for which you would need additional software - even
that can be overcome without too much difficulty, if you know what you are
doing, and be assured anyone with criminal intent would know.

You need to consult your legal adviser!

Office2003's Information Rights Management features are designed for both of
these scenarios, however NO commercially available system will absolutely
prevent the user from repurposing your signature. Remember, they could just
print it out and then scan it back in. Etc etc
