Adding color to pivot tables

P

Paul Falla

Dear Becky
If you move your cursor to the lefthand edge of one of
your totals rows, you should see it change to a thick
arrow. When the cursor changes, click the left mouse
button and all the totals rows will be selected. you are
now able to format those rows any way you like.

Hope this helps

I need to add a fill color to my "total" lines in my
pivot table. Is there an easier way than to manually
highlight each row, one by one? Thanks!

Sorry, Paul, but I've tried this several times and the only thing that highlights is the row that I'm on - and it selects the entire row, not just the pivot table. I've tried left click, right click, double click, but can't get it to work like it should. I've
done something accidentally in the past that selected all my totals rows, but I can't figure out what I did. Any other suggestions?

Try Paul's suggestion one more time (it worked ok for me in xl2002).

But you have to be very careful. It's just a smidgen off (to the right of) the
row headers. And the cursor changes to that block/black arrow.

Well, I don't know why it won't work for me. I even zoomed the page to 200% to make sure. I get the 'highlight row' arrow or the 'move cell' 4-arrow thing, or the 'change row height' thing, but not the one that you speak of. Guess I'm just destined to have to do it the hard way

Thanks, anyway

I tried it in xl2002 and xl2k and both worked for me.

(maybe less coffee???)

Row#
+----+
| 12 |
+----+

If that box represents the row number, then when I move the cursor right smack
in the middle of the 12, I get that bigger arrow. I click and xl selects the
whole row.

If I move it ever so slightly to the right (so the arrowhead is over the first
column, but the arrowtail is still in the row number field), then I could click
and select just the total row cells.

You were on a total row line, weren't you?

Seems that my profile was corrupt and that's what was causing my problem. I had two pivot table gurus and two IS techs trying it for themselves just to make sure I was doing it correctly, and they had the same problem I did (on my pivot table) but the method worked fine on their computers. So now I have a new profile and everything works great

The coffee suggestion was good one, but in this case, it turned out to be something else

Thanks ever so much for your follow up
