Adding hyperlinks freezes everything

I've had an ongoing problem when insertiing hyperlinks using FrontPage. It
continually freezes up, and my only way out is to reboot. Only way I can
do it safely is to type the entire URL right in the page itself, hit [space]
which turns it into a link; then Edit > Hyperlink; then I have to highlight
both the URL and the corresponding text or image and finish it... then go
back onto the page and delete the URL (if I don't want it to appear on the
page).

I used to have the identical problem with FrontPage Express. Is this a
built-in problem?

Sounds like you are running out of memory. Do you have at least 128 mb of ram?
On some win98 machines that make not be enough.
