Adding music to a presentation

I am just a home user and have found my way round to making a slide
presentation but even though I click Insert - music from file etc.
and the little speaker shows up, I click automatically for the song to
start with the first slide, but it remains silent.

Any help available would be much appreciated.

If its a linked sound the path length may be too long. Try putting it in the
same folder as the presentation and reinsert. You could also try embedding
the sounds. Look in the sounds area here :

That could be it - the song would be longer and I assumed that PP
would fade it, or give me that option further in.
