Adding music tracks to PPT in ASF format

I am wanting to have music tracks playing throughout a PowerPoint
presentation disc that will be played on various computers. I am compiling
presentation of photos etc. for parents to view at home of their children's
first year at school. I have really hoped to include music as well, but until
now have not known if it would be possible. It seems it can be done by
changing the music files into ASF formats? However, I am unsure how to
actually create the music as an ASF file and how to include it to play on the
disc? Help!

What kind of sound files do you have now, Wendy? You can add a variety of
sound files to PPT -- they don't have to be ASF files.

Also, which version of PPT are you using?

My version of PPT is 2002 and my sound files are WMA files. I have recorded
some songs from CD onto my harddrive and they have come in as WMA files.
Apparently PPT will only recognise WAV files so I have found a little program
which converts WMA files to WAV. Its called Music span and I found it on the
internet.

Music span allows you to play and loop a custom audio track across slides.
The supported audio formats are WAV/MP3/WMA/MIDI. The problem is that I dont
know whether I have to actually copy this program onto each disc I create for
it to play the sound files.

My goal is this - I have to produce a disc with a PPT presentation which
includes sound tracks (for various slideshows). This disc will have approx 70
copies made to go out to the families of all the first graders who will be
viewing this disc at home on their computers. I have to create a disc with
sound files that will play on all versions of PPT.

My problem is this - I dont know whether I have to include each soundtrack
in the disc as an ASF or WAV file for it to play. ALso I think I have to
include the actual PPT viewer file for each disc to play automatically on
each parents computer!

I really need help as I am not familiar with this technical side of PPT! Can
you help me and hope I have give enough information!

Regards Wendy

Music Span is a great add-in, but if you intend to make autorun CDs, then
that means you'll be using the 2003 PPT Viewer on the CD to show the
presentation. And the Viewer doesn't support add-ins like Music Span.

So. You need to put your PPT file in a folder on your C drive. Put all the
WMA files in the folder as well. PPT will recognize WMA files. You shouldn't
have to convert them. Put the WMA files in the same folder with the
presentation *before* you insert them into the presentation.

This page explains how to play the WMA files throughout your slides.
Play sounds across multiple slides (A WAV runs through it)

To create the autorun CD, start here. Make an AutoRun CD
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00037.htm

When you burn these files to the CD, you'll burn all the PPT Viewer files,
the PPT file, and the WMA files to the CD, but you'll just burn a data CD --
you don't have to burn the soundtracks on the CD as audio files or anything
like that.
