When you import/insert a picture into powerpoint.... it hazards a guess (imho) as to how big it should first display it.
Don't worry about how big powerpoint initially displays the image... just re-size it using the corner handles (click the
picture once).
If powerpoint is showing the picture approximately occupying 50% of your screen, then it's done quite a good guess IMHO
