I am not sure what type of symbols you are trying to add. One way is
to simply change your font to Symbol, Webdings or Wingdings and type in
your symbols. Another way is to use your character map. From the start
button choose programs/accessories/system tools/character map. For
example holding the Alt button down and then typing 0167 then release
will give you § symbol.
