Administering Access: MySQL_BE and Access_FE?

N

Nancy Lytle

I have inherited multiple databases, and the number is growing. The
databases are small but contain import information (important, not mission
critical). I am splitting those that are not already split and using FE
Autoupdater. My problem At this point is that the databases are all over the
network making it harder to administer. I would like to get everything so I
can more easily handle backups, checking data integrity, etc. The problem
is that there is no GUI like MySQL Control Center for Access. I would like
to be able to administer the back ends from one interface so that I don't
have to go around the network opening individual databases to make minor
changes to the backend, and I'd like an easy way to set up a job to backup
all the databases I am administering.

The best way I can see to do this would be to use MySQL or MSDE for the BEs
and Access for the front end. This way I will have all the data in one
location that will be easy(ier) to administer and I can concentrate on the
front ends.Does this sound like a plan? (I am choosing MySQL or MSDE for its
price - we do not need the additional capabilities of a full SQL Server for
these databases).

Any other suggestions welcome.
