Adobe 8 Professional

2 problems. First is that when I combined multiple word documents into a PDF
document, it placed unwanted characters in the pdf document.

Also, do you know of any reason why someone that is using Adobe 8
Professional wouldn't be able to open a PDF file? when some of us can open it
with the same software?

Adobe 8 Professional is not a Microsoft product or part of Office.
Perhaps checking the Adobe tech support will provide guidance. Link

You should also make sure that Acrobat 8 has the latest update. Acrobat,
Help, Check for Updates.
