ADP 2000 deployment problems

You know....I think I'm done here. I'm a really patient guy, and I
understand frustration but I'm just tired of having to pick through your
ranting and raving against Microsoft to find a nugget of information that I
might be able to use to help you.

I was on the PSS Support team for SQL Server for 6 months as a contractor
and resolved dozens of SQL Server not found cases that were very likely more
complex than whatever you are facing. But I was getting paid for that
frustration. This I will no longer do for free.

thanks i dont mean to be a jerk
i just ask for Microsoft to start taking Access seriously.

i mean-- they're throwing it away and starting from scratch; without
ever fixing these dozens of bugs

Excel dorks wouldn't put up with this

why does microsoft abuse Access developers?

i just am clueless why they are so short-sighted

Access connection doesnt work.

i dont have the exact text.

it just makes me mad when things dont work like they shoud.

I am a ADP nationalist.

Screw Excel; the internet and MDB

ADP is the best platform in the world and Microsoft isn't taking them
seriously.

what you say is 'look before you leap'

i am stuck with this POS access 2000 and Microsoft is selling it--- for
cold, hard cash

why do they sell buggy products?

Just like Kevin, I am now really think that you really do not know what you
are talking about (not meant to be rude here). It is very clear your problem
is, as I suspected, you do not know SQLServer/MSDE while claiming Access ADP
is good platform and MS did not do good enough on it. Look, you canot not
even describe what your problem is. A complicated software like SQL Server
will not automatically work for you. If a SQL Server is just as simple as
you to start Excel (you kept mention it), your SQL server will be destroyed
within days, if not hours. It is not foll-proof toy, it is SERVER software,
it must be secrued very well.

Access ADP is spesifically designed for SQL Server. If you have no knowledge
on SQL Server/MSDE, there is no point to touch Acccess ADP. Study on SQL
Server for the very basic knowledge IS required in your case, other than
blame others for you not knowing how to do things correctly.

hey **** you asshole

i've been doing SQL Server fulltime for 5 years.. im a developer..
technically a data warehouse / analysis services developer

i just think that it's bullshit that microsoft can't make this shit
work

i mean-- it's a known fact that Access 2000 and SQL 2000 don't play
nice.
I haven't ever gotten it working flawlessly-- it is buggy as hell.

create a procedure in isqlw (thats query analyzer lol)
create proc sphappy as select * from sysobjects
go

open this sproc in Access.. and change the fields around; hit save and
you got a message
'the parameter is incorrect'

i mean-- why the hell can't Microsoft afford to fix bugs like this?

what the hell kindof show are they running over there?
i've got a half-dozen other bugs.. in ADP

i love the platform-- it is the best platform ever built

but it's buggy as hell and microsoft needs to wake up and start acting
like a grown up company.

microsoft just ins't mobilizing-- microsoft ins't engaging the
developer community.. microsoft can't fix annoying bugs in their
products

and microsoft is run by a bunch of excel dorks-- i mean-- do the math;
excel is QUITE POLISHED compared to Access.. (but the product is a
total waste of labor hours)

Access ADP is the most important; best reporting platform in the world.

What do you think?

That Crystal Reports and Excel and SQL Server Reporting Services rules
the world?

Access reports are EVERYWHERE

it just makes me mad that Microsoft won't do this:

a) fix bugs in your products
b) give Access _EASY_TO_USE_ OLAP Reporting abilities (like CR has the
ability to do)
c) talk about the future of Access
d) stop trying to shove Visual Studio down our throats and START TAKING
ACCESS SERIOUSLY.

Access 2000 and SQL 2000 can't work together; reliably.

And I can't find the patch that they used to have.. i just thinnk that
it's ridiculous that Access 2000 and SQL 2000 don't play nice together.

And I think that it's ridiculous that Microsoft is losing the database
war-- just because they're not taking Access seriously.

I just claim that Excel dorks are in charge of the database folk at
MIcrosoft; and I call for Excel to **** off and START OFFERING SERIOUS,
STABLE AND FLEXIBLE REPORTING & DATA ENTRY OPTIONS

thanks i dont mean to be a jerk

If you really don't want to be a jerk, Aaron, stop filling your posts to a
technical newsgroup with whining. Start providing enough detailed
information for people who know what they are doing (Kevin and Normal are
two of them) that they can analyze the situtation and offer useful
suggestions.

If you can't get the required Server to connect, how would you know whether
or not ADPs were any good? Do you just like the _idea_?

My experience is that ADPs are OK -- just OK, not _better_. Applications
done with ADP have some nice features; applications done with MDB/ODBC have
some nice features. All in all, I doubt it is worth the time and effort to
become proficient with ADP for most who already develop using MDB / ODBC.
