adp "disconnected" although connection dialog connects successfully

This problem is with Access 2000 adp connecting to SQL
Server 2000 via LAN.

3 workstations (of 6 tested and maybe 20 more untested
but "uncomplaining") open the .adp as disconnected. Using
the Connection dialog, I have tested the connection and it
succeeds. Still disconnected. I have changed the
connection to other the dbo sql user. Test it,and it
succeeds but the adp is still disconnected.

I should also say that I think the problem PCs were
initially running the adp connected and that they stopped
about the time I checked the dev version of the adp into
visual source safe for the first time. (???)

Also, the database forms and reports continued to work,
returning data. It's come home to roost now, though,
because I added a new view (for a report) to the database
and the report says it can't find the view. I assume it's
working (where it works) on a "cached" version of the
database definition.

I've seen this question several times in various
newsgroups but no resolution is out there yet. I've been
working with ADPs almost since they were new and I've
never seen this before. Is it a new thing?
