Advice please

I have a group of departmental managers who currently plan all the work for
their teams in separate plans that may contain work for several software
releases. I am wanting to find a way to pull the relevant parts out of their
plans to create a release view on this work but cannot see the best way to do
this (I only want summary level information on the overview plan)

An alternative would be to have a separate plan for each release and let
them manage tasks for their departments within those plans but they would
then want to be able to easily get an overview plan for all work within their
team.

Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

Your alternative is a better solution (define separate plans for each release).

The managers can easily find out what their teams are assigned to in the PWA
Resource Centre. They would have 2 options: (1) highlight their resources in
the Resource Centre and press Availability or (2) press the View Resource
Assignments button in the action menu of Resource Centre. I prefer (1)
because it provides an immediate visual representation of how much work my
resources are assigned so I can see if any one person is over-committed.
Under the graphic are the details by resource which can be expanded down to
the task level if required.
