After being read, emails disappear

Using Outlook 2007, after reading a new email, it shows read. When
navigating to another folder and returning to the Inbox, the messasge has
disappeared from the inbox. Searching for the message shows it present in
the inbox. It cannot be be re-read except through the searching process.

Sounds like you might have modified your view to hide read items. You can
either reset your view via View > Current View > Define Views or start
Microsoft Outlook 1 time with the /cleanviews command line switch. I will
warn you that if you use the /cleanviews command line switch, it will reset
all built-in view back to their defaults and delete all custom views.

I should have been a bit clearer. Not every email "disappears" after being
read, and those that do, don't immediately disappear, only after navigating
away from the inbox. I will attempt to reset the defined views, however.
Thank you. Bradwin

The server is an exchange server, 2003.

I have the same issue and it seems to happen random and not very frequently.
Please let me know if you have an answer.

I have had the same problem with Outlook 2007 (on a vista computer) and a
Gmail account using IMAP. If it matters, that email is IMAP'd to another
computer winth Outlook 2003, and a Blackberry. However it doesn't happen to
all emails, and the Blackberry nor the outlook 2003 ever delete the messages.
It just seems to happen randomly. Sometimes the emails are moved to the
junk folder, but that is less than 10% of the time. The rest they just
disappear completely. At first I didn't believe my fiance when she told me
it was happening, but when using her computer I saw it with my own eyes.
Please offer any advise on this issue

Even though this is an old topic, since a lot of people still use Outlook 2007, I wanted to post a reply.

I was experiencing the same thing with a Gmail account connected via IMAP to Outlook 2007. When reading messages, occasionally one would disappear from the inbox when I moved on to read the next one.

Thankfully, the message could still be found in the [Gmail][All Mail] folder; dragging the message from there back to the inbox makes it visible in the inbox again.

Not the most elegant fix, because you need to know a message has gone mssing to know to go looking for it, but when you're scratching your head wondering what happened to the mail you know you read some time ago, first go check the All Mail folder.

(Obviously, this only when Outlook randomly loses message that were stored in Gmal, other services don't have that same "all mail" folder to retrieve things from.) HOpe that helps someone, though...
