After cleaning off a virus, my Outlook says I don't have permissi.

I cleaned off a virus by deleting an entire directory. Then, Outlook
wouldn't open.

I tried repairing it, that didn't work. I reinstalled it, then had to change
all my files from Read Only to "regular".

Now I can open Outlook, but it says I don't have permission to send and
receive.

How can I fix this?

What virus, and what directory?
Then, Outlook
wouldn't open.

What version? What error message exactly?

What files? I can't see why reinstalling Outlook would change your
file/folder security/permissions.

A lot more info might help. Please post by including a concise summary of
your question in the subject line, and the full details of your question in
the body of your post. Always include your version/mode/SP level of Outlook
(from Help | About), what kind of mail account(s) you use, and any other
pertinent details.

I am running Win XP, SP2 and Outlook 2003.
I deleted a directory called:

Documents and Settings\"User name"\Appication
Data\sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar

The virus was:
Trojan Horse Dropper.Small.7.AL

I have downloaded the download from the java site, and the directory I
deleted is there now.

I have worked with Outlook all day. I can now open it, but (NOTE) it is
deleting my password everytime I close Outlook.

If I go to Tools\Email accounts\change\...fill in my password and then do a
test...it works.

But, when I close that dialog box and try to send/receive, I still get the
message, "you don't have appropriate permission to perform this operation"

I looked at regedit and it had 2 keys under permissions. I deleted them both
and now only have one...still didn't help.

How can I get my Outlook 2003 to send/receive. The settings are correct,
because the Test Message works.

Thanks for your help.

Search the computers hard drive for all of the .ost files (*.ost)
delete them.
Open outlook, ignore it if you get an error.
reboot the pc.
open outlook again
should work then, and send/receive will be fine.

Wendy,
I just got back from a trip to Asia and found your reply. Thanks!

I did the search and found no .ost files. I am using Office 2003, if that is
helpful.

Still won't let me send or receive...it deletes my pw everytime. Now it is
doing the same thing when I try to put a WEP pw on my wireless network...it
won't store the pw....

Thanks for your help....any other ideas?

Just in case someone else reads this...my tech friend seems to have found a
way to fix this. The virus (Trojan Horse Dropper.Small.7.AL) attacked my user
profile in Windows XP. We simply created a new user profile, then copied
over the things I wanted to keep (Emails into Outlook, etc.). Now Outlook
works. IT WAS NOT AN OUTLOOK PROBLEM...IT WAS A WINDOWS XP PROBLEM WITH THE
USER PROFILE, AS FAR AS WE CAN TELL.
