After compaction PST file is nearly twice the size of "Personal Folders" - WHY?

Ed

I regularly compact my Outlook PST to keep the file size small for easy
backup.

When I compact the PST, it shrinks to 85MB. My "Personal Folders" folder,
which contains ALL other folders, has a cumulative size (including all
subfolders) of 45MB. I can't figure out what takes up the extra 40MB in the
PST.

Do you have any suggestions on what takes up this extra space and how I can
reduce/compact it?

Thanks for your help!

Try running Compact Now a couple of times. Also doing a (boot)defrag on your
harddisk and running Compact Now afterwards decreases the file size.
