alignment of pictures/text boxes

I have had this problem repeatedly with word - but every once in awhile.

I either insert a text box or an image and instead of being able to move
and/or align slowly, it almost snaps to some type of grid. I'm looking for an
option, snap to other objects or turn off snap to grid.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Heather

Thanks Bob, I'm familiar with tables... but I think I may have led you astray
with my question (unless I'm misunderstanding your directions)

I am working in the header of a word document but this phenominom is
happening outside the header too. I inserted a text box and instead of being
able to move it pixel by pixel with my mouse or the arrow keys, the mouse and
arrow keys automatically moving inches at a time.

Any suggestions? The reason I brought up the grid issue is it seemed similar
to how PowerPoint handles objects and its "snap to grid" function (opposite
of what I need).

Thanks again Bob,
Heather

Unless you "locked" it to the text, it should "slide". Put it in front
of text and try it.

Humm, are you in 2007? If so, Selet the text box, Click Text box tools,
Align, Grid settings.
