All office 2003 programs start but quit responding?

Help. Just bought Office 2003 Student and Teacher Edition. Only Outlook
works. The others open but quit responding when I try to open files
especially when I try and change document directories. Are there any known
conflicts between Office 2003 Standard Edition and othe rprograms that could
cause the elements to stop responding. I am running a Windows XP on a new HP
Media Center computer.

I was working on a client's machine last night and that stupid 908531 wanted
to download & install so I told it not to...what a pain to KEEP it from
installing! I hope she doesn't let it if it pops up again!

My system did the install today but the first patch didn't affect me. I
prefer to make sure I'm running the latest patches and updates. Silly me.

I dunno why my primary machine (this one) never got that update...i guess im
immune.
