All office applications crash when save

Hi,

I have a problem with word, powerpoint, and excel files. When I try
and save a new file the office application crashes and the error
message:

I was thinking of uninstalling office then reinstalling it and getting
all the new updates. Also, this is an standard student office version
(maybe useful info.). Is there an easier way to fix the problem,
hopefully a quick fix?

Uninstalling and reinstalling Mac applications rarely if ever solves a
problem like this - the apps just don't corrupt that easily. And while
the crash log might be helpful to MacBU if they knew everything your
machine was doing, a bare log doesn't usually give sufficient info to
diagnose the problem.

You *could* try (with all Office apps closed) renaming the

~:Libraryreferences:Microsoft

folder to see if that helps - if it does, it's an Office-wide preference
problem.

However, since Office uses the MacOS system dialogs and methods for
saving files, it's possible that it's a system problem. Try resetting
Disk Permissions (with the Disk Utility app), and make sure your OS X
version is up-to-date.

It might also help to know if you can save files using a different user
account on your machine.

Hello Andrew -

First, don't jump the gun on reinstallation - it's rarely the fix in OS X.
The apps themselves usually don't go sour, it's typicaly more of a
"communications breakdown" associated with support files, permissions, etc.

Second - for future reference - there's no need to post those long involved
crash logs here except in the [unlikely] event someone specifically asks for
it Most of us are users like you, not Unix/OS X programmers, and the logs
primarily document what did/didn't happen rather than what *caused* the
misfire. What is more important here are: accurate descriptions of the
circumstances, the versions & the system config.

Now - as far as getting on the road to recovery...

1) It might be a good idea to run the Disk Utility - Verify Disk. If it
finds no errors run Repair Disk Permissions while you're there.

If Verify Disk *does* report errors, start up from your OS X install disk
(or alternate boot volume), then go to Utilities>Disk Utility & run the
Repair Disk routine. If necessary run it several times until no errors are
found. Once no errors are found, start up from the main hard disk and run
Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions

If Disk Utility can't fix the problems, post back with the results before
going any further.

2) Download & reapply the Office 11.3.5 update

3) Download & reapply the Apple 10.3.9 COMBO Updater

4) Run Disk Utility - Repair Disk Permissions again & restart.

Let's see if that makes any difference & go from there if necessary.
