Allow free movement of photos and shapes?

How do I allow free movement of drawings, basic shapes, text boxes, etc. At
the moment I can only move in approximately 1/8" increments?

Hold down the Alt key while you drag the object.

You can disable "Snap to grid" (Drawing toolbar: Draw | Grid), which should
help.
