Alt enter

find mac excel to be very frustrating, having used "regular" excel for years. There are some very simple things I have not figured out yet, and heaven forbid Mac should have any written documentation or HELP anywhere.

What is the mac version of "alt enter?" In other words, how do I establish multiple lines within a cell?

And WHY does Mac have NO written documentation anywhere?

Just curious.

<cmd>-<alt>-<enter> does it for me. (But then I have a PowerPC Mac and
Excel v.X)

Hi kcragman -

Although Richard has given you the answer to your main question here's a bit
more information you may find interesting - maybe even hard to believe :)

What you're finding on the Mac *is* "regular" Excel. The program was first
introduced on the Mac before the PC even knew what a Graphic User Interface
was, as was Word. The "perversion" of the product took place *after* the
products were abducted by the minions of the Dark Side :)

As for "written documentation" - If you mean *printed*, name one program
that does. Printed manuals were phased out years ago in favor of local (now
augmented by online) Help files. Not only can't printed documentation keep
pace with the updating but it's usually out of date by the time the software
ships. Electronic resources can be better kept up-to-date, they can be
searched faster, there's a wider array available from the comfort &
convenience of your computer, the pertinent content can be printed as
needed... And we haven't even touched on the cost factor, have we :)

The very keystroke you sought is in the Excel Help - Do a search for the
term: keyboard shortcuts & you'll find everything you wan to know. Just make
sure that if you use the Help Menu that you select Excel Help rather than
typing your search criteria directly into the Search field that appears in
the menu... You can thank Apple for that little Spotlight pitfall of
obnoxious intrusion which confusingly sneaks you into Mac Help rather than
help for the program you're working in. [IMHO, one of the most *stupid &
arrogant* atrocities Cupertino has visited upon Mac users.]

If you want it, though, there is an abundance of printed material on every
aspect of Mac hardware, OS X (all flavors), Apple Script, as well as any
program that has any degree of popularity. You can canvas the brick & mortar
bookstores or shop on line... Even many of the larger libraries. When you
compare convenience & [lack of] cost for online material I think you'll come
to the same conclusion as most - Google is your friend :)
